I was actually going to post something for Aaron Sorkin or Michael J. Fox, both of whom were born on this date, but that’s before I found this little clip from Natalie Portman’s appearance on Sesame Street where she admits to Elmo her lifelong desire to be an elephant. Enjoy, and Happy Birthday Natalie!

Now you may be asking yourself what the two have in common. Well, earlier this week I was reminded of The Dukes of Hazard Soundtrack (no, not from the regrettable film, but from the original TV show). So as we rock on to the weekend here’s a double dose of Dukes goodness starting with Johnny Cash belting out a ballad for the ol’ General Lee and finishing with Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane singing about his best friend, Flash. Enjoy your three-day weekend folks!
Johnny Cash - “The General Lee”
This afternoon teh ‘monkey and I spent a little time in the old movie theater checking out Pixar’s latest, Up. Now you’ll have to wait a little while for the review, as the film doesn’t hit theaters until a week from Friday, but I will share this small clip with you introducing one of the funniest characters in the film, Dug.
The return of Sean Connery to Celebrity Jeopardy! What more could you ask for? I didn’t think much of Kristen Wiig’s crazy Kathy Lee (though I’m told it would be funnier if I was still watching SNL regularly), but I give huge kudos to Tom Hanks for going all out in spoofing himself. Enjoy!
Here’s a trailer for the best super-hero movie we’re never going to see. Revel in the awesome.
George Lucas turns 65 today. Say what you will about his later years, the guy changed the landscape of movies (in mostly positive ways), and as a lifelong Star Wars nerd (and proudly so!) I owe much to the man that showed me as a young child just how amazing movies could be. To celebrate here’s Carrie Fisher’s speech to Geroge at his AFI Tribute from a few years back. Happy Birthday Mr. Lucas, and thanks for the memories.
Wow. I’d set this up for you, but it’s awesomeness speaks for itself. Thanks to teh ‘monkey for the find. Punch Out fans rejoice!
Seeing as a few of us are still debating the merits and faults of the new Star Trek this little gem, clips from the original series mashed-up as a Mentos commercial, seemed too good not to share. Enjoy!
I thought long and hard as to what song to use to wish Mr. Irving Berlin a happy birthday. Yeah, he’s been dead for two decades, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve a little extra love on his special day. Seeing how the man was one of the most proficient songwriters of his era it was no easy task to choose a single song. However the clip below combines one of Berlin’s most famous songs with one of my favorite comedies, Young Frankenstein, making it the obvious choice to share. Enjoy “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”
