Revenge of the Fallen (in a nutshell)
posted by  Cap'n Carrot on July 1st, 2009

megan-fox-transformersNow I hated me some Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (you can read my review here). For the sake of time, and not wanting to give away major plot points, I neglected to get into too much detail on the actually plot of the movie. Those of you who are interested in a hilarious blow-by-blow rundown of the film should definitely check out Topless Robot’s take.

I will give you one word of caution as this little rant has more than it’s share of spoilers. However, if you have seen it, or a just looking for yet another reason not to, then this examination from everything of specific scenes and plot points to the reason behind the entirety of Megan Fox’s career and celebrity is a must read:

“She looks like a porn star and has the same acting talent as one, yet for some reason she makes mainstream movies. This tonal disconnect is what’s so appealing about her.”

The Brothers Brick
posted by  Cap'n Carrot on June 30th, 2009

lego-gun-shipNow that’s a big gun. Oh, and lookee, there’s a boat underneath!

Who doesn’t love LEGOs? Commies that’s who! Seriously though, The Brothers Brick is a damn fine LEGO fan site. Besides the sweet gunship you see here the site also showcases plenty of LEGO-goodness including a Star Wars LEGO Chessboard, one cool ass tank, robots, and so much more. Take a minute or two and peruse their site. I think you’ll be glad you did.

Now, where did I put my LEGOs?

Oh what a feeling, modifying that Toyota!
posted by  Cap'n Carrot on June 18th, 2009

toyota-logoThis one’s for Toyota owners looking for information on modifications to their cars. ToyotaModifications covers everything from the simple (reverse hood, mirror paint-job, custom gages), to the odd (Ferrari doors, angel eye headlights, floating trunk), to the absurdly awesome (smokescreen, flame thrower, and even transforming into a robot).

Top 10 Tueday - Rock Star Cameos!
posted by  Scene-Stealers on June 2nd, 2009

billy idol wedding singerThey say all actors want to be rock stars and vice versa. There are a select few who are able to do both, but for the most part, we don’t want musicians in our movies and we don’t want our movie stars on our stages. That’s why the rock star cameo is a fun and harmless little way for our favorite rockers to appear for a short time (sometimes as themselves) and disappear before they can do any real harm to the movie. Many times, the rock star cameo sounds way cooler on paper (Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s daddy “Pirate,” for example) or just plain fizzles out (Neil Diamond in “Saving Silverman”).

This list is proof that there is a way, however, to have rock star cameos that actually … well … rock. I know I missed some, so please leave comments below! If you have an idea for a Top 10, email me at eric@scene-stealers.com. Click here to see the Top 10 Rock Star Movie Cameos.

Infinite Monkey Comics
posted by  Cap'n Carrot on June 2nd, 2009

Infinite Monkey Comics takes a random image from Flickr, a tweet from twitter, and mashes them together to create a random generated comic. It still needs some fine-tuning, and the search isn’t as broad as I’d like, but the concept has some possibilities. Here’s what I got when I searched for “Gobots.”

Online dating just got skankier
posted by  Cap'n Carrot on May 6th, 2009

To take something like online dating and lower the bar even further, now that takes a particular set of skills. Check out these avatar options which include skank, groupie, super skank, whore, and lost in the 1970’s. You’ll have to put some thought into choosing a name for your new avatar, and, sorry, Skankywhore is already taken. Classy! Wow, thanks IMVU!

Labelscar - the Mall Blog
posted by  Mr. Sparkle on April 28th, 2009

kyova-mall-05If you’re like me, and, well okay, you’re probably not like me; but if you are, you’ll love the Mall documenting blog Labelscar. The Blog, run by a couple of dudes criss-crossing the nation, writes up a short piece on malls – mostly dead ones - around the country that includes its history and photos.

Sounds weird, but if nothing else it can be appreciated as a reflection of American consumerism. The dead malls that used to be packed with shoppers and name-brand logos are barely occupied if at all anymore, usually for petty reasons like it’s slightly out-dated decor; adding a sense of mortality to the ones one that are thriving.

Now that I’m done trying to sound smart and analytical about the American economy, Transbuddha will shortly return to its regularly scheduled programming of Venezuelan disco sex music and other assorted garbage.

No Animals Were Harmed…

Rehashing an old post by Davion, because I think it deserves the attention…

If you’ve never been to explodingdog.com, do yourself a favor. As simple as the concept is, it never ceases to amaze me what comes out of it; You email this guy a sentence, and he draws a picture from it.
boredom's not a burden anyone should bear
I’ve been following his work from the very beginning, when my friend Dr. E turned me on to it, and one of the best things about it is you can watch his style develop, and you see recurring characters start popping up. (Keep an eye out for Red Robot.. he’s my favorite.)

A cult following has sprung up around this guy’s work, and it’s one heck of a huge cult. If you start at the beginning and work your way through the archives, I’m sure you’ll see why.

Toilets of the World
posted by  Mr. Sparkle on February 17th, 2009

No, that is an actual toilet. I used it at the Vatican.I’m spending three months in Europe right now. Obviously, it’s a blast; but there are plenty of small fears nipping at me. Chief among them - bathrooms. Toilets are crazy different here, and I never long for the Red, White and Blue more than when I try to push the stubborn flush button (yeah, it’s a button) in my apartment.

So it’s with much relief that I found WorldToilet.info, a seeming database for toilet standards around the world. Here, you’ll find data on all sorts of different toilets in different countries. Collected criteria includes Shape (sitting or squatting), How to Clean Up (by paper or water) or, my favorite, How it Disappears (falls into hole). Clearly, this site’s best use is as a resource of potty humor. And yes, friends, the pun was most definitely intended.

This is an actual toilet I used it at the Vatican.
