The host was Seth Meyers and all the winners gave five-word acceptance speeches. Monday night internet celebrities and B-list stars gathered together as the Webby Awards handed out their, well, what the hell are those statues anyway? Heating coils? You can find a list of all the winners here or spend some time watching more more 5 Word Speeches. There’s just so much you can say in five words (like say, “Webby’s? That a real award?”). Of those I watched Sarah Silverman was the most memorable, but Fallon’s was the best.

Sorry folks, looks looks like you’ll have to find your prostitutes another way. Craigslist has signed a deal with local law enforcement in Illionis, Missouri, and Connecticut to totally revamp their “erotic services” category into a new more strictly monitored (and twice as expensive) “adult services” listing. So where are lonely guys supposed to go to find money-grubbing women who post fake pictures of themselves online and offer services they have no intention of performing? FriendFinder? CareerBuilder.com? You can read more here.
The folks over at So Good have come up with my kinda tournament; a battle of meats.

After an intense debate with my friend Shawn (thanks for the tip on this, by the way) I had Ground Beef winning over Bacon 88-85 with a miracle 3-pointer from the half by freshman Fleischkuekle from North Dakota, right at the buzzer.
Shawn’s bracket had Duck winning it all - a major upset.
Who do you think will go all the way?
If you’ve got a little time on your hands, are more 8-bit nostalgic than you like to admit, and you’re a fan of Watchmen, here’s a little time waster with you in mind. Enjoy the “old” Minutemen arcade game.

Besides the music, which, let’s face it, is awesome, I think my favorite part is that you can kick the tops off of all the trash cans in the subway. Now if only you could duck those knife throws!
So, for the longest time, my “homepage” URL in public user profiles has been this.
Someone has apparently bought the domain and created a highly amusing home page and 404 page there now.
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Dutch West’s Josh Rubin, so word that he’s involved in another project is always good. Graduates is a 30 minute comedy pilot from Paul Gulyas, Patrick Beck, and Jorge Gonzalez III about grad students navigating the uneasy transition from hard-partying youth to responsible(ish) adults. A 30 minute self-financed pilot on the web is ambitious by any standard, but thankfully the results hold up. If nothing else, it makes a spiritual bookend to Judd Apatow’s sadly short-lived Undeclared.

Making you wait an hour for a 4 minute webisode? Man, I’m a jerk. Well, let’s not waste anymore time then. Here’s webisode (hate, hate, hate that word) 2 of BSG: The Face of the Enemy:
Check back manana for two more chunks of BSG’s love!
Do you feel it? That nervous anticipation? It’s like waiting in line for the bathroom at a super-packed show, but instead of trying to make room for more beer before your favorite band takes the stage, you’re desperately, foot-tappingly anxious to make room for more AWESOME.
That’s right, folks: The final 10 episodes of Battlestar Galactica debut on Friday. Will the series return to it’s creative zenith of Seasons 1&2? Will the plot developments be doled out so slowly as to make Lost (or Carnivale for that matter) look like a date that goes for your pants before the opening credit fades off the screen? Will ANYTHING be explained in a satisfactory manner? Who cares? BSG just rocks that hard. In honor of Friday’s premiere we’ll be running the webseries ‘The Face of the Enemy’ (which wraps up today with episode 10), twice daily to get you (okay, me) in the mood for the last 10 weeks we get to spend with the best show that was originally a metaphor for the Mormon mythology.
Here’s Webisode 1:
Sure the second season of Flight of the Conchords doesn’t officially start until January 18th, but why wait until then to get caught up with America’s second best reason to love New Zealand? Funny or Die has the first episode up (with HBO’s blessing) for your viewing pleasure:
Awwwww yeah.
Yup. Pin-up queen (and the inspiration for untold goth/alterna imitators) Bettie Page has passed away at age 85 after suffering complications from a heart attack.
My own introduction to Bettie Page was via the work of Dave Stevens (who passed away in March of this year) via The Rocketeer and his iconic pin-up work. In fact, it was Stevens who brought Bettie Page out from beneath the mattress of obscurity and back into the mainstream.
Page’s good-time girl persona and giddy enthusiasm permeates the modern burlesque scene even though Page herself battled depression and often swung between repudiating her racy past and capitalizing on it’s renewed popularity, but as so often the case with imagery it’s the illusion we embrace, not the story behind it.
So g’night, Bettie Page, and thanks for your (however indirect) encouragement in helping bring fun back into the world of glamour.
