I can’t get into Fantasy Sports teams, mostly because a) I’m nowhere near fanatical enough about sports to really get into it and b) because I can’t be bothered to keep track of all those statistics. Which, I suppose, is a little lame coming from an old D&D nerd like myself.

Thankfully, ImpactGames has figured out a way to combine my old D&D love with my obsession with the news via the community web game, Play the News. The premise is that news stories allow you to choose a role defined by the story and then present your choice for what that newsmaker should do going forward. As stories develop, you’re shown what your actions were contrasted with what actually happened.

There are also ways to predict future headlines and events, further pitting your geo-political prowess against the world.

I’ve only started getting in to this one, but so far it’s an engaging way to experience world events and one that should be worth a shot for any other news junkies out there.

Check out Play the News

Thanks to Sam over at the AV Club Blog for the find.

wow… this rocks. A couple of my students came into my classroom as I was fooling around with the site. They joined me and in no less than 3 min we were in wild debates over Guantanamo bay. Can’t wait to incorporate this into my classroom activities. Thanks for the heads up.

Originally, I was going to write a serious thumbs up post about PtN, and then the reaction to my GTA post compelled me to be a smartass and make the faux alarmist post about. What I’m trying to say here is: thanks for making a good review post about PtN since I never got around to it.
