Kanye West gives up the secret origin of the Running Man.
Sweet!
just to clarify, I realize it’s not a Kanye West tune. The reference comes from the fact that West posted it on his Vimeo blog.

Ahem!
…The running man originated with breakdancing in the ’70s in the Bronx. The moves were all mimed representations of parts of essential urban culture of the time; the running man literally represented getting-the-F-out of somewhere when the cops showed up (or someone else similarly flight-inducing). The dancers were challenged to hold a pose (a “lock”) through a pause (or “break”) in the music.
Hence,
Breakdancing.
..cough.
So I was one of 3 white kids in a class on HipHop Culture at my suburban college. What of it?
