My morning was going just swell until I happened upon this article from Geeks of Doom informing me that Columbia Pictures (the studio who in recent years has given us such high concept films as Gothika, White Chicks, and Joe Dirt) is going to remake one of the only decent movies adapted from a work by Philip K. Dick. That’s right, they want to remake Total Recall. Really? You couldn’t find one of the bad ones to remake? Like, say, this one? For those who don’t remember, the original starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a man so fascinated with Mars he went to have a dream vacation planted into his head only to discover he is a spy, his wife (Sharon Stone) wants to kill him, and he must return to Mars, find a woman from his past (Rachel Ticotin), reclaim his life, and put things right… or is it all simply part of his dream vacation? Who have they got to produce the ill-advised remake, you ask? The guy who gave us xXx: State of the Union, Stealth, Torque, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Saving Silverman. Somebody shoot me. Somebody shoot me now.
Total Recal – Return to Reality?

I enjoyed the original. It’s not that old so why do a remake already? I think a film like ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’ is ripe for a remake. I had always expected a sequel to ‘Total Recall’. It would begin with him waking up and discovering it was all artificial after all, and begin a new adventure.

First off, when I saw that stupid movie I was about 11 or so and started having nightmares that the atmosophere was going to escape and i’d be killed by the vacuum of space. Dammit. I hated that movie.
Second off, I’m just tired of remakes. And movies based off stuff that already exists (sorry, most of the comic-based movies are good, but I’ve had enough, thanks.) Can we maybe write something new?
