Are you wondering about ways that you can make a difference in your local community? Maybe you’ve found yourself with a little bit of extra time each week and wondering how you can make a real difference. Or maybe you’re living somewhere that’s becoming more multicultural and you want to learn how to support those who are new to your city. Here are three ways you can help out in your community.

1. Volunteer
Volunteering is one of the most rewarding things you can do with your free time. This is especially important if you’re retired and have a lot more time on your hands. Not only is it good for the people you’ll help, but it’s also a great way to keep your mind active and to create a great sense of community around you which can be challenging as you age. There are so many different ways you can volunteer in your community and so many different areas you can focus your time on. For example, if you’re an animal lover why not consider contacting local animal shelters to see if they need any support caring for their animals, or walking the dogs. You can also consider volunteering to help fundraise for an organisation that you care about, best face-to-face fundraising can make a real difference in terms of funds collected and how much money they’ll have to spend on their projects.
2. Learn More
Education is so important and with more of it in the world, I think a lot of our issues would disappear. If you’re living somewhere where the population is changing a lot, due to immigration or refugees, it can be very enlightening to learn more about the people coming into your community and their beliefs. At the end of the day we’re all human and long for the same things: a better future for our children, new opportunities and free time with our loved ones. Learning more about other religions and ways of life is a great way to connect with those who may come from a different background to you. 3. Donate
If you don’t have time to volunteer, donating is another great way to help out and ensure that you see positive changes in your community. One type of donation that’s relatively quick and so important is blood donation. I try to donate my blood as often as I can, because it’s something that doesn’t cost me a cent and could save someone’s life. I also really enjoy donating regularly to charities that I care about, as I know that money is what keeps the wheels turning and ensures these great organisations can do their hard work in the community. I think many people get put off donating as they think they have to donate a lot or regularly, but the truth is even a small donation can make a big difference to someone’s life. I personally love donating for causes that help support education, because I think it’s the key to breaking the cycle. Check out https://brightmindsonlineschool.ca for more information.
