Transformers Scavenger Hunt + new theme song!
posted by  Scene-Stealers at 9:30 am on June 4th, 2009

transformers revenge of the fallen movieThe “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” Scavenger Hunt is on, and boy is this one challenging! We tried to mix it up with a good bit of overall movie trivia, a little Transformers toy trivia and some harder questions about the cartoon. The winners get put in he drawing for advance screening passes to see “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in Kansas City, but even if you don’t live nearby, you can still test your Transformers knowledge and prowess with this fun and challenging quiz/hunt. Feel lucky, punk?

I also found the mp3 of the new theme song for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” played by Cheap Trick, and immediately fell in love with it. (It doesn’t hurt that they are one of the most misunderstood and criminally underrated bands ever.) Did I mention that they are not afraid to sing about flying robots? Check it out.

street-fighter-flashNeed a break from work? How about a quick game of Street Fighter Flash. The keystroke combos are a bit odd (hit “p” to pause the game and get the move list), but fans of the franchise should enjoy this little time waster. Just click on the pic, and FIGHT!

Keith Olbermann says enough is enough
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 2:00 pm on June 3rd, 2009

When you repeatedly ask, order, cajole, and plead with strangers to burn down the local theater you can’t act surprised when someone actually strikes the match, and you can’t feign ignorance. In the case George Tiller, a Kansas doctor who has repeatedly been attacked over the years for performing late-term abortions, Bill O’Reilly, and several other FOX News pundits, labeled the man a baby killer and demanded he be stopped. And this past weekend he was. Tiller was shot while serving as an usher in his local church by a right-wing extremist in an action which FOX News has denied any involvement or complicity.

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann decided he had finally had enough. The man who used turn a funny phrase in giving out the latest SportsCenter highlights stepped back from his own entertaining newsman pundit persona to lay the facts of the situation bare and call for an immediate calling on the carpet of FOX News for what he views as their contributing influence to the murder. In a rather Murrow-esque moment Olbermann called for the quarantine and boycott of FOX News and any businesses which supports them, or, as he sees it, their agenda. Whether or not people can support this position, or even take Olbermann seriously, who has been in his own heated public battle with FOX over the past few years, remains to be seen.

Super Mario Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

The good folks at Nintendo took the opportunity yesterday at E3 to release this little teaser showcasing the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. I have to admit this looks like a lot of fun and sure doesn’t help my resistance against purchasing another game console.

Blessed Odin
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 2:15 pm on June 2nd, 2009

Finally some movie casting I like! Seems there’s some buzz around the internets about the fact that more casting has been made for Marvel’s upcoming Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh. We’d already heard that Chris Hemsworth was set to play the God of Thunder and Tom Hiddleston had been cast as Loki, but now it seems like the role of Odin has been offered to Brian Blessed. Brian FREAKIN’ Blessed! Okay Marvel, you found a way to get me excited about this project, and not just because it gives me an excuse to share the following clip from Flash Gordon. DIVE!

Land of the Lost - “Cha-ka”
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 1:00 pm on June 2nd, 2009

Seeing as I’ll be heading to the theater tonight to check out the new full-length feature version of Land of the Lost (check back Friday for the review!) I thought it appropriate to share this with you. Here’s the very first episode of the series 70’s Saturday morning show entitled “Cha-ka” which introduced us to Rick Marshall, Will and Holly, the Pakuni, and the Sleestak. The entire first season of the show is currently available on Hulu. It hasn’t aged all that well, but I still get a kick out of the show’s intro and theme song.

Total Eclipse of the Heart
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 11:30 am on June 2nd, 2009

Here’s the video of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” literally translated for comedic effect. We’ve had some discussion in ‘buddha offices about its quality. Our pal Eric, who found this, thinks it rocks hard, though alphamonkey thinks it’s slightly dumber as a Pauly Shore after… well, anything I guess. I’m somewhere in the middle. I think it’s a little too uneven, starting strong but losing some steam, but I’ll readily admit there are some pretty funny moments (including an army of Arthur Fonzarelli clones). What do you think?

Top 10 Tueday - Rock Star Cameos!
posted by  Scene-Stealers at 10:30 am on June 2nd, 2009

billy idol wedding singerThey say all actors want to be rock stars and vice versa. There are a select few who are able to do both, but for the most part, we don’t want musicians in our movies and we don’t want our movie stars on our stages. That’s why the rock star cameo is a fun and harmless little way for our favorite rockers to appear for a short time (sometimes as themselves) and disappear before they can do any real harm to the movie. Many times, the rock star cameo sounds way cooler on paper (Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s daddy “Pirate,” for example) or just plain fizzles out (Neil Diamond in “Saving Silverman”).

This list is proof that there is a way, however, to have rock star cameos that actually … well … rock. I know I missed some, so please leave comments below! If you have an idea for a Top 10, email me at eric@scene-stealers.com. Click here to see the Top 10 Rock Star Movie Cameos.
