Futuristic movie timeline
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 8:00 am on June 17th, 2009

futuristic-movie-timelineDid you know that Disney’s The Black Hole takes place somewhere between the original Alien and The Matrix? No? For shame!

Luckily we’ve got Dan Meth who took the time to chronologically place more than 30 futuristic sci-fi flicks (even going so far to include Robocop 2 and Rollerball) on one handy dandy chart.

Now that’s some serious nerd love.

Click here, or on the chart, for the larger image.

Now that’s an iPhone I might buy

iphone-nesSure the regular old iPhone looks cool, but wouldn’t you consider this iPhone SNES an improvement? I wonder if it would come with Super Mario Bros., or maybe Zelda?

The pic is courtesy of Everaldo Coelho’s photostream. And if you’re looking for some free new Iron Man, Back to the Future, or Star Wars icons (for both PC and Mac) you might want to check out his official site. He’s even got a few TMNT and Care Bears icons, too.

An unarmed man, on his knees, looking in the opposite direction… BAM! Just a reminder folks, you really don’t want to mess with Deadshot. And it’s one more reason why I love Gail Simone’s Secret Six.

Speaking of documentaries I’d like to see, check out this little clip of a LEGO convention from Love of the Brick, a documentary short (around 27 minutes) focused on teens and adults who continue to love those little building blocks known as LEGOs.

Trailer time: Not Quite Hollywood
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 10:00 am on June 16th, 2009

Check out the first trailer for the Australian New Wave, or Ozploitation, documentary Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! The movie features clips aplenty along with interviews from stars, directors and actors including Dennis Hopper, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Quentin Tarantino. Caution folks, it’s a Red Band trailer and definitely NSFW. The film will get a slow roll-out beginning with a limited release in select cities on July 31st.

Top 10 Tuesday - Underrated Woody Allen Films
posted by  Scene-Stealers at 9:00 am on June 16th, 2009

whatever works larry david wood“Whatever Works,” starring Larry David, opens in limited release this weekend and its the 40th full-length theatrical release from legendary writer/director Woody Allen. I’d say that warrants a look back at some of the movies that may have been written off as lesser works by this prolific independent auteur.

Seen “Annie Hall” and “Manhattan” already and looking for something else to rent? Luckily, longtime Scene-Stealers sitegoer Phil Fava has done all the hard work for you by putting together a fantastic list of the 10 most underrated movies in the Woody Allen filmography.

Bikini Bloodbath Carwash
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 8:00 am on June 16th, 2009

This post is for Mr. Sparkle, who on occassion has commented on his love for bad movies.

The DVD pickings today look a little weak. Sure you could grab new season sets of Burn Notice, The Closer, or Eureka, but am I the only one intrigued by a film, forget low-budget how about no-budget, purposely entitled Bikini Bloodbath Carwash? Okay, intrigued might be too strong a word, but oh boy does this look bad. Embrace the awful by watching the trailer. And if anyone actually decides to spend money on this tell us why, I mean let us know the what you thought.

31 Days of Oscar

From Fresh Paint comes this impressive little promo for TCM’s 31 Days of Oscar. The montage of several classic film clips is worth a quick look (though, to be honest, I could have done without being reminded of Crimson Tide).
