Lyon is a lovely place to visit and no matter the time of year, you’ll find yourself spoiled with options of things to do. One of my biggest tips for anyone planning a visit to Lyon, is to save yourself the hassle of trying to navigate public transport from the airport to your hotel and instead book yourself a private airport transfer to Lyon. You’ll find it much more economical and less stress than booking a taxi and much simpler, too! Once you’ve arrived at your hotel, showered and rested a little I’m sure you’ll be eager to start your day, so here are some suggestions of my top 5 things to do in Lyon.

1. Fourviere Hill
Here you will be absolutely spoiled with incredible views. You can walk, take a bus or the funicular up, depending on your budget and energy levels. Personally, I suggest the walk, it’s a beautiful way to get some exercise in to burn off all those delicious pastries you’ll be eating. There’s a cafe at top, but I would only order drinks there as it is somewhat average at best. The real reason to come up to the top is to soak in the gorgeous views!

2. Consider a Wine or Chocolate Tour
This region is well known for it’s excellent wine, and perhaps less for for it’s chocolate. Both are divine and make for a great way to see a little more of the countryside surrounding Lyon. While in Lyon you can easily find options to book, but my suggestion is to book at least a few days in advance during the summer months and don’t forget your camera!

3. Musee Miniature et Cinema
This museum has it all and is sure to delight people of all ages, including children. If you’re worried your children will scrunch up their nose at the suggestion of another museum, this one may be the exception. There’s heaps of memorabilia from world famous movies, such as the mask from The Mask. In addition there’s an adorable miniature museum. Both sections are sure to captivate visitors of all ages, making it perfect for the entire family.

4. Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere
This is a beautiful church and is the most famous landmark in all of Lyon. Make your way up to the top of the Church to see lovely views of Lyon. It’s a beautifully decorated Church and no visit to Lyon would be complete without seeing it.

5. Do a Cycle tour
Lyon is an excellent city to do a cycle tour, many of the attractions are spread out so doing them by bicycle simply means that you can see so much more in a day. With the tour aspect you can find a nice balance between taking photos of the attractions and being told about the history that you may not otherwise find out. Definitely worth it and it’s fun to get a local’s perspective on this beautiful French city.
