Top Places to Visit in Australia on a Road Trip

Australia is one of the best places in the world to do a road trip, due to the high quality roads and diverse country. While there’s not much to see in the centre of the country, that’s mostly desert, you’ll find a lot to explore along the coasts. There are many different ways to see the country, from renting a car to traveling by train, but I think the best value way to see is Australia is by campervan. It’s no secret that Australia is a relatively expensive country to visit, but using a campervan will help you keep your costs down as your accommodation is included in your rental fee.

There’s a great company called DriveNow that allows you to relocate a campervan for a ridiculously low cost – as low as $5 a day with the fuel included in the price. Bare in mind, when you’re traveling by way of campervan your accommodation is pretty close to free – could you imagine finding accommodation and transport in Australia for $5 a day? If you’re been dreaming of an Australian road trip, campervan relocation with DriveNow is a great way to keep costs down and make this a reality sooner than you thought. As for places to visit in Australia, there’s a lot to choose from but here are my top pics:

Great Ocean Road

Melbourne:

This is a fun, funky and art-filled city with narrow laneways that are filled with great cafes, restaurants and bars. There’s also a few beaches not too far from the city centre, meaning you can get some serious sun soaking time while enjoying a very culturally diverse city. There’s also Phillips Island where you can visit penguins, koalas and kangaroos!

The Great Ocean Road:

Located in Victoria, this stretch of road is around 250km long but will take you the better part of a day to explore. There’s narrow windy roads that go along the beautiful ocean’s side, showcasing cliffs, beaches and the cool rainforest, which can be a blessing during the warmer months. It’s a very scenic drive and offers some of the best views in all of Australia.

Daintree National Park

The Great Barrier Reef:

One of the best diving sites in the world, the Great Barrier Reef is absolutely stunning. This 2.3km stretch of coast is home to a coral reef that houses some of the most diverse and interesting marine life in the world. The Whitsundy Islands are a great place to visit as well, especially if you have time for a 2-3 day sailing trip around the islands.

Daintree Rainforest:

Rain forests probably aren’t the first thing that come to mind when you think of Australia, but there’s a few goodies here. This is Australia’s biggest rainforest and home to about 60% of Australia’s bat and butterfly species. There’s a bunch of activities you can do here, from a standard hike to crocodile boat tours if you’re brave enough.

There’s a lot on offer in Australia and traveling by campervan is a great way to see it all while having a lot of flexibility in your trip.
