Total Eclipse of the Heart
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 11:30 am on June 2nd, 2009

Here’s the video of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” literally translated for comedic effect. We’ve had some discussion in ‘buddha offices about its quality. Our pal Eric, who found this, thinks it rocks hard, though alphamonkey thinks it’s slightly dumber as a Pauly Shore after… well, anything I guess. I’m somewhere in the middle. I think it’s a little too uneven, starting strong but losing some steam, but I’ll readily admit there are some pretty funny moments (including an army of Arthur Fonzarelli clones). What do you think?

Top 10 Tueday - Rock Star Cameos!
posted by  Scene-Stealers at 10:30 am on June 2nd, 2009

billy idol wedding singerThey say all actors want to be rock stars and vice versa. There are a select few who are able to do both, but for the most part, we don’t want musicians in our movies and we don’t want our movie stars on our stages. That’s why the rock star cameo is a fun and harmless little way for our favorite rockers to appear for a short time (sometimes as themselves) and disappear before they can do any real harm to the movie. Many times, the rock star cameo sounds way cooler on paper (Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s daddy “Pirate,” for example) or just plain fizzles out (Neil Diamond in “Saving Silverman”).

This list is proof that there is a way, however, to have rock star cameos that actually … well … rock. I know I missed some, so please leave comments below! If you have an idea for a Top 10, email me at eric@scene-stealers.com. Click here to see the Top 10 Rock Star Movie Cameos.

Infinite Monkey Comics
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 10:15 am on June 2nd, 2009

Infinite Monkey Comics takes a random image from Flickr, a tweet from twitter, and mashes them together to create a random generated comic. It still needs some fine-tuning, and the search isn’t as broad as I’d like, but the concept has some possibilities. Here’s what I got when I searched for “Gobots.”

IBM meet MightyGodKing

mightygodking-ibm-spoofThese are too good not to share. This collection of hilarious slides (as you can from this example definitely fall into the NSFW category) was inspired by this 1975 IBM presentation, which isn’t nearly as funny, but still worth a look (if only to better understand the reference of the joke).

Honestly, I couldn’t stop laughing. Thanks MightyGodKing!

Drunk people are funny (and love Scene-Stealers)

hangover-poster“You know that you did a good job of drinking the night before when you wake up someplace that you don’t recognize and the first question that you ask yourself is, ‘Wasn’t I wearing underwear last night?’”

As some of you may, or may not, know our pals over at Scene-Stealers recently ran a ticket giveaway for an advanced screening of The Hangover. To win contestants simply needed to share their best hangover/drunk/Vegas stories.

The results are funny, and more than a little disturbing.

If you missed your chance to win free tickets, and share your shameful drunken escapades, you do still have a chance to grab yourself and autographed poster of the film.

Twilight Part Deux trailer released, let the mocking begin
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 12:00 pm on June 1st, 2009

The first trailer for New Moon has hit the magical tubes of the internets. Huh, I didn’t know the sequel was going to be a comedy. Fans, defend your franchise. As for the rest of you, get ready to laugh. I’m just curious, did anybody else get The In Crowd vibe from this trailer? Sigh, what ever happened to Susan Ward?

Catman, Calendar Man, and Bat-Mite. Oh, my!
posted by  Cap'n Carrot at 11:00 am on June 1st, 2009

Catman and Calendar Man, plus Bat-Mite? Oh yeah! Not to mention Mr. Zero, Kite-Man, Gorilla Grodd, Solomon Grundy, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Ace the Bat-Hound, Mr. Polka-Dot, Killer Moth, Tiger Shark, and a Fifth-Dimesion Comic-Con panel. Paul Dini gives us “Legends of the Dark Mite,” the best episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold yet, which even includes a nice nod to the intro for Batman: The Animated Series and the use of one of the ‘buddha offices favorite phrases “Awesomesauce.” In this clip Bat-Mite’s imagination gets the better of him as more and more of Batman’s rogues gallery appears. You can check out the full episode here.

Burn Notice returns this Thursday night (9:00/8:00 on USA) for its third season. That means more hijinks with burned spy Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan), more of the beautiful yet deadly Fionna (Gabrielle Anwar), and, perhaps not least importantly, more Sam (Bruce Campbell).

Up

up-capsulePixar’s latest, Up, tells the story of a grump old widower (Ed Asner) befriended by a young kid (Jordan Nagai) who sets off on a wild adventure.

What could easily have been a paint-by-numbers tale is given the Pixar treatment. This isn’t Gran Torino; it’s so much more. In fact it’s arguably the most grown-up story the company has done, and quite possibly the best flick Pixar has ever made.
