Top beauty tips to look amazing this year

As we move into summer, you may be thinking about changing up your beauty routine to stay on-point in 2017. Luckily, #ExpertsinBeauty Ellisons have released an ebook with some top tips to keep you looking great all year long.

This ebook covers some of the hottest make-up looks for this spring and summer. While last year was devoted to the matte lip, glossy lips are making a comeback, so throw one in your purse to keep your makeup looking fresh.

In fact, makeup this year looks to be a lot less maintenance compared to last year. For girls who struggle with the cat-eye, smudged eyeliner is taking over. This is sexy and low maintenance, and much easier to accomplish compared to picture-perfect cat eyes.

Matte skin was also huge last year, and we can expect natural dewy skin to be back. This means you should grab a liquid or cream highlighter, bronzer, and blush. For women with great skin, look for lightweight coverage in your foundations. And for those of us who need a little more coverage, grab a great concealer and choose a buildable foundation so you can adjust it depending on how your skin is looking.

One thing I struggle with is fake tanning. While I’m very fair, I tend to stay away from fake tan as I have many memories of going to high school with orange, streaky legs. Luckily, self-tan has come a long way. And with a bit of preparation, you can have a gorgeous glow without looking like you’ve obviously used a bottle of fake tan.

The trick is to jump in the shower first, and exfoliate before shaving. Next, dry off, and apply moisturiser to places that tend to get dry, like your elbows, knees, ankles, and your feet and hands.

Next, grab your fake tan and an application mitt. The mitt helps your tan go on evenly, ensuring that you avoid any streaks. Yay for gorgeous tanned skin without the sun!

As we tend to spend more time outside and in the sea and chlorinated pools in summer, our hair often gets damaged. According to the ebook, it’s best to avoid washing your hair too often, as this can make it even more dry. I personally only wash my hair two-three times a week, and I use dry shampoo to keep it looking fresh between washes.

One of my hairdressers taught me a trick years ago- before going in the pool or sea, wet your hair with tap water. This means that your follicles will already have expanded and will be full of water, so wont soak up the sea or pool water. Another good option is to run some conditioner through your hair before heading to the beach.

Finally, remember that what you eat and how much sleep you get will have a huge impact on your skin. I  personally find that my skin looks much better when I’m eating salmon a couple of times a week and drinking plenty of water.
