Top ways to improve your life and increase your happiness

Most of us could do with a little extra happiness in our day. If you’re finding yourself bogged down under the weight of your to-do list, you’re continually stressed out, or you simply know you could be a little more content, here are some top ways you can improve your life:

Learn to take it easy

If you’re someone who struggles to take downtime and you find yourself too busy to relax, this should be something you change asap. Without time to relax, you’ll be at risk of burnout, which can hugely impact your life and career.

Make a point of adding some ‘me time’ into your schedule each day. Whether that means getting up early to enjoy some quiet reflection before the kids get up, or turning off the TV and reading a good book before you go to sleep at night, there are plenty of ways to take some time out.

Surround yourself by self-improvers

There are two types of people in this world: People who are actively aiming to improve their lives, and people who are happy to complain about the status quo without ever doing anything about it. Studies have shown that we’re the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time with, which means you should surround yourself with people who are improving their lives.

This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to cut out your friends, but you can focus on listening to some of the Orion’s Method podcasts, watch inspiring videos on YouTube, take interesting classes or courses, and have deep conversations with people who are on the same page as you.

Learn mindfulness

You’d have to have been living under a rock if you haven’t yet heard of mindfulness, but many people automatically assume this stuff simply isn’t for them. There are huge benefits to getting more mindful though, and plenty of apps you can use to get you started, including Calm and Headspace.

The point of mindfulness is to get you to stop living in the future and past and simply focus on the present moment. Once you begin to do this, you’ll have greater focus and are likely to feel much calmer and relaxed.
