If you’ve been overdue for a vacation for some time, but you’re not sure exactly where to go, Florida is an excellent choice. Millions of people are visiting the state each year (in fact tourist numbers continue to rise) and its great climate, theme parks, and variety of hotels, resort, and beaches make it an ideal and easy place to escape.

Here are a few reasons why you should be visiting Florida in 2017:

The weather

While the northern part of the United States spends the winter dealing with never-ending snow and freezing temperatures, people in Florida are continually enjoying very comfortable temperatures. The lowest it’ll get in the winter is 60 degrees, meaning residents are usually wearing shorts and t-shirts.

The size

The varying cultures and landscapes in Florida make it easy for visitors and residents to take a vacation without needing to leave. Driving four hours will get you from the shores of Miami Beach to the theme parks in Disney World, and that’s only going through a tiny part of the state.

The rich and diverse culture in Florida allows you to feel like you’re in a completely different place after driving for just a few hours.

The amusement parks

Orlando attracts more visitors than anywhere else with amusement parks in the United States.

In fact, regardless of your interests, you’re likely to find an amusement park catering to them. With Legoland, Seaworld, islands of Adventure, Disney World, and Universal Studios waiting, you can even swing by Holy Land Experience which will take you 2000 years back to the land of the Bible.

The Everglades

There’s so much beauty and life in the Everglades, and it has some of the most diverse ecosystems in the Western Hemisphere. Not only is it jam-packed with alligators, but you’ll find the breeding ground for wading birds here, the largest mangrove ecosystem, and many more opportunities to get up close to the wildlife.

The food

You can’t miss a taste of the famous key lime pie in Florida. Almost every restaurant here is claiming to make the best pie in the state, and the delicious pie is made of key limes, sweetened condensed milk and egg yolks. Of course, the seafood in Florida is top-notch as well, with stone crabs, Cuban sandwiches, and more ready to tempt visitors.

The people

Florida is incredibly diverse, and the traditionally red state has pockets of blue for liberals to enjoy. You’ll find people from all over in Florida, including international tourists, locals, and Americans escaping the cold of their home states. People who live in Florida are generally warm and welcoming, and are likely to give you excellent directions while asking about your home. That’s just that warm, Southern hospitality.
