Top things to see and do in Miami

Miami is a top vacation destination for a reason- the weather is incredible, and there’s plenty to see and do for every age group. If you’re thinking about visiting, consider renting a car in Miami so you can make the most of your time and see and do as much as possible.

Here are some top things to see and do in Miami:

Wander the Art Deco District

This district was the first 20th-century neighborhood added to the National Register of Historic Places. You’ll find it in Miami Beach, the buildings here (predominantly hotels) have been around since the 1930s and 1940s. This means they look a little like spaceships and give you a great look into the formative years of Miami Beach. You can walk through the district for free, or grab lunch or cup of coffee at one of the many cafes and restaurants. If you can sneak into a few of the hotel lobbies, you’ll be able to see some of the interesting interior architecture as well.

Check out Wynwood Walls

Miami is the place to go if you need to do soak up some culture. Wynwood Walls is an open-air museum which you can visit for free. Located in Wynwood, you’ll find more than 80,000 square feet of walls, with subjects ranging from realistic landscapes and intimate character studies to surreal forms and patterns. Some of the top artists in the world have contributed to the art here, and you can also find a number of galleries throughout the neighborhood if you’re looking for art to take home.

Explore the surrounding area

Car rental in Miami is not only a good idea to help you see plenty of sights in a limited time-frame, but it also allows you to get out further and explore some more of Florida. Let’s face it: The public transport isn’t the best in Florida, and the state is best seen by car. If you’re hoping to head down south, spend some time exploring Fort Lauderdale, or even ride the rollercoasters in Orlando, be sure to hire a car.

Visit the Children’s Museum

If you’re bringing the kids with you to Miami, the Miami Children’s Museum is a fun day out. It’s open from 10am to 6pm, and you’ll find it just east of downtown Miami. While there are many children’s museums in North America, this is one of the 10 largest in the USA. Here, you’ll find many interactive, hands-on exhibits which cover a number of engaging and interesting subjects, including supermarkets, cruise ships, pets, wellness and health, and buildings. While there’s plenty of real-world information, there’s a healthy pop-culture element as well. The Lion Guard was backed by Disney and ran in 2018 and is a great example.

Visit Little Haiti

Little Haiti can be found in northern Miami, and it’s home to a diverse population from the Caribbean, including thousands of people from Haiti. While many people automatically visit Little Havana, Little Haiti isn’t as heavily visited or well-known. That means far fewer tour buses (and even independent visitors) are wandering around up here. You’ll love the incredible wall murals, colorful buildings, and delicious food. Check out the Little Haiti Cultural Center and the Haitian Culture Arts Alliance.

Get outdoors

South Pointe Park and Beach can be found at the southernmost point of Miami and offers incredible views of the Port of Miami, Biscayne Bay, and the Miami Beach skyline. While the beach is lovely, it also has public restrooms, ample seating, and a long pier that’s waiting to be wandered.
